Note: This is an old comic. As per usual, I now have more things to say regarding this subject. If the Lord wills, we will discuss this more in the future. Also, the allegations against Ravi Zacharias have been proven true. Very terrible, very sad, let us be far more careful with putting fallible humans on pedestals.
Original commentary (From November 1st, 2020)
Never ever let people be the source of your faith. Do you know how easy it is to fall into that trap? Bible is clear where our trust should be: “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5. The Lord should have our trust, all of it, and that trust should not be affected by other human beings.
Everyone sin and fall short of the glory of God. I know how easy it is to be a crowd follower, it’s easy to have faith when you’re surrounded by other Christians, when you have a good pastor, or when you’re in a Christian household. Oftentimes I find myself losing confidence and faith when I’m in a more hostile crowd... and of course, as the content of this comic suggests, it’s super easy to lose faith when someone you put too much disappoints you.
A few verses: “Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.”
Jeremiah 17:5
“Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.”
Psalms 146:3
The Israelites got a whole lot of pain and suffering because they depended on other nations (people) during times of crisis.
Being a Christian means that you should do all you can to know God better, to understand Him personally. Let him be the source of your faith and strength. It’s good to listen to Godly pastors and to look up to Spiritual leaders, but confide in them too much, they become your idol. Satan loves taking advantage of that. No one is safe from temptation since Satan is a roaring lion ready to pounce on whoever has their guard down.
Really, if your faith is solely based on what other people believe, then is your faith truly genuine? Now of course knowing there are people on your side is a very encouraging thing, don’t get me wrong. But at the end of the day, your faith and relationship with God are between you and God. If John MacArthur or Billy Graham or Charles Spurgeon or your local pastor Tim or your Christian youth group are the sole reason why you claim to be a Christian, then oh boy, you have a big problem to address.
If you invest all your time into knowing people, but not God, then obviously when those people fail you you will have nowhere else to go, all your investments were made on them, therefore you have nothing left. But if you invest in God, well, He is faithful and true, will never leave or forsake you, and best of all, He is perfectly just and will never succumb to sin! Better yet, He has victory over sin and death!
So let us begin working on transferring our faith from humans to God. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight” Proverbs 3:5-6
