Never really thought about what a rare thing it is for someone to not only realize their helpless sinful nature but to humble themselves before God to ask Him for help.
The reason why I drew this comic is that I want to share my thoughts with Christians who have doubts about their own salvation. I know quite a few who get heavily discouraged at times because of their struggle with sin. It’s a good thing to have remorse over sin. Repentance is super important. Plus, you feel ashamed of your sin, that is a sign of genuine conversion. However, I don’t want any of you to ever have the fear that you are not on the narrow path. If you have asked Jesus for help in genuine faith and have accepted His work on the cross, your salvation is secure!
The more I look at this world and the more I think about the idea of salvation, the more I realize just how precious a thing it is. Precious as in rare. The Bible is super clear about one thing, is that humility is such an important virtue. In fact, feeling humility is a key ingredient in salvation. Think about the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector at the temple. It is not the super religious individual who obtains God’s favor (though religious works are good things), it is the tax collector, who is by no means a righteous man, but he learned to have humility and realizes his own wretchedness. And that humbling of self is so rare. Read John 3:1-21 for more insight.
Looking back on my own life, I don’t think I would’ve come to God if He didn’t intervene in my life. Through a good friend of mine, God’s righteousness, sovereignty, and judgment were made evident to me. And through many events, I came to an understanding of my sinfulness. I would’ve been completely blind to that if God didn’t help me. It’s only after seeing God’s love, God’s standards, and the result of obeying God did I realize just how short I have fallen. I thank God for that. Again, it’s such a rare thing, I am a lucky guy.
So, fellow Christians, know that your salvation, though it was free, is a precious and rare thing. So, my friends, know that you’re secure on the narrow path, and go journey through it with all you’ve got!
