DISCLAIMER: This isn’t a comic shaming you for not having your life together. If there are factors in play that are outside of your control (like anxiety, for example, I had a TERRIBLE lifestyle because I was involuntarily affected by anxiety at one point), not your fault at all, my heart goes out to you, may God deliver you from that. Also, I don’t actually live like what’s described in this comic, I used to, but God has delivered me out.
I’m currently on a journey to become a stronger person, someone more dependable, a real MAN of God. Taking good care of yourself and taking responsibility for your own well-being is an important factor in that, so that’s one of my focuses.
Do we love ourselves? I don’t mean the flesh, of course, we don’t need to work hard to love that. But do you love the life God has given you? This creation that is intricately made by God? Because if you’re making a train wreck of your life, I would argue maybe not. So what does that say about your love and devotion to God? Remember the parable of the talents? One of the “talents” that God has given you is your body (which, is a temple, don’t forget), your mind, and your life! Those things don’t belong to you, are you taking good care of them?
We say love your neighbor as yourself and treat others as you’d like to be treated. Well, how are you treating YOURSELF? We say if one can’t take care of his own household, he shouldn’t be leading ministry… hmm, are YOU taking care of your own body? Nevertheless your household! Look, we seem to believe all of these things for other people, yet we don’t seem to believe it enough to try it ourselves…
Having a healthy lifestyle, a good schedule, and responsibility for your own life directly affect how you serve others and the Lord. We are supposed to be more than conquerors, but I’m saddened by the state of some of our lives right now: stagnant, unmotivated, unhealthy, irresponsible… we need to be stronger!
look, of course, there’s a place for sacrificing your own health for more important things. So at the end of the day, examine your own life, ask God for wisdom, and make those changes if needed!
