COMIC: Render Unto God

Am I my own master? My answer to that is “no”. The answer remains the same even if I wasn’t a Christian. We are all created by God, therefore, by default, He already has full authority over us, much like a potter over his pottery (Romans 9:21). But God gave us free will, so we were free to pledge our allegiances to whomever we want. According to the Bible, by default, we pledge it not to God, but to sin (John 8:34). So there, we can say “I am my own master” all we want, but really, we are nothing more than slaves to our desires (many of which are evil).
But for the Christian, is set free from this kind of slavery when he chooses to pledge his allegiance to Christ by trusting in His work on the cross, which sets the Christian free from his former master (John 8:36). Now the Christian is under a different kind of ownership, this time a slave to Christ and righteousness, knowing that this master will only give goodness and love in abundance (Romans 6:22, 6:18)
To me, it’s a joy to say “I do not be, one to myself, but Christ”. The Bible tells us that we are united with Christ, much like how sugar is united with a cup of tea, impossible to sever! Whatever Christ goes through, we also take part. We take part in His death, having our sinful nature nailed to the cross and done away with (Colossians 2:14, 2:20). We also take part in His resurrection, inheriting a new life, for His eternal kingdom (Colossians 2:13). Since your ownership is in Christ, God will no longer judge you by your conduct, but rather by the perfect life of Christ! No longer do we have to worry about where we’re going, since we know that an infinitely good master is watching over us! Let us then, knowing that we owe everything to Christ, live our lives fully for Him!
Pray for your brother Danny in this regard, he is greatly convicted to do better in this endeavor. Sometimes I am still trying to gain control of my life, not remembering that I will only drive it into a wall. May God manifest this truth fully in our minds and hearts.
