Disclaimer: I know this is a very complicated and difficult issue for some of you, and I don't pretend to fully understand. There's only so much an online comic can do, so I urge you to spend time in prayer and Word, pleading to God for Him to help you understand His grace and love. I hope this comic at least opens some doors.
To be Christian, yet still take on the full weight of your sins, and refuse to run to the very one who volunteered to suffer for you after you have sinned, is a miserable existence.
Guilt can be a good thing. God gave us a conscience so we will feel that terrible guilt when we sin, and hopefully, as a result, we will ask Him for forgiveness and salvation. Even as a Christian, guilt can still be beneficial. God desires us to live a Holy life, if we have no guilt for sins, we grieve the Holy Spirit and we leave our sins unconfessed and we remain unrepentant.
However, do you see the goal of guilt? It's not to incapacitate you, it's not to make you feel terrible about yourself and stop there. No, it's a mechanism to get you to run to God with your sins and have Him help you change. I am greatly saddened by the fact that many Christians are not running to God with their sins. For various reasons, I'm sure, maybe your self-esteem has been destroyed by your addiction to pornography. Maybe you're afraid of God's wrath and judgment so you hide from His presence like Adam and Eve. I understand that there are valid reasons (at least, reasons that may seem valid in your head) for you to be doing this. I also acknowledge that this is an extremely difficult issue and sometimes you can't possibly help yourself.
Don't just take it from me though, take it from God. God has every right to annihilate you in your sins, but He didn't, He died for you instead, and accepted you with open arms when you first came to Him. So why is it all of a sudden different now? If you are so afraid to go to Him, then may I suggest that you are making an image of God according to your own perception? How come now He's a tyrant who won't forgive you anymore? Is that fair to God?
How come now Jesus' sacrifice isn't enough anymore? How come for this particular sin, or for this particular number of sins, Jesus' death on the cross is now obsolete? Where did you find that idea from? How come all of a sudden your salvation is based on your performance again? Or maybe it's based on your emotions? Do you really trust God and His eternal truth? Or maybe Satan has a grasp on your mind?
All of that may sound harsh, but we all know that Christ has died for our sins once and for all. If you have trusted in Him, believed in His death and resurrection, and asked for His help, you are saved. Try to add anything extra, and you are diminishing the extent of His work. And we all know that that fact is not a free license to sin. If you're bothered so much by your sins, then I don't think that's a problem for you.
Moving forward, I hope you will work on setting your foundation on the work of Christ. If you try to fix all of your sin problems before you firmly establish yourself on the truth of Jesus, then you will continue to be plagued by guilt and shame. There is no moving forward, and I repeat, NO MOVING FORWARD until you stop relying on your own performances and start relying fully on the cross.
