COMIC: Live for Today

This comic/commentary was originally written November 7, 2021

This comic is more practically-oriented (as I am trying to take practical steps to become stronger in Christ, and this came to mind).

Coming from me, I can only speak for smaller worries that plague one’s mind. I haven’t come across situations where one is actually worried for their own livelihood or even life. But you know, even though I can’t speak personally for those kinds of worries, God’s promises remain the same, and I have read many instances of Christians who did indeed go through those trials and were still rescued by God. But for now, let’s talk small worries, but a big bad mindset.

Is worrying a sin? Well, that’s a tough one. Idolizing certain aspects of life to the point that they overrun your mind and push out God certainly is a sin, and we want to take steps to overcome that. The main reason why Jesus told us not to worry is not so we can have peace of mind (though He would certainly want us to have that), it’s so that we can better serve the Kingdom of God with our time.

Knowing the fact that God promises us all that we need will give us greater peace and thus more time and strength to seek and serve His Kingdom. Worrying about what tomorrow holds for ourselves is a sign of selfishness, an aspect of the old self, so in our journey of sanctification, we should take steps to overcome that. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be responsible for your future (in things such as working and studying), just don’t let anything about yourself take precedence over God.

Letting go of worries about things you can’t control gives you more time to work on things you can control. God would rather you work hard on something today rather than you thinking about something of tomorrow. It also gives you more time to invest in your eternity through serving God and others. So let this be another reminder for you to not waste your God-given life on things that don’t matter!
