Note: This is an old comic. Conscience is a big subject. Some say the conscience is subjective, varying from person to person. I agree, the culture we live in and our experiences certainly can change the way we think.
However, there are moral aspects that is, for the most part, universal to human civilizations. For more insight on that, read Mere Christianity (I believe he covers this subject in the first chapters) by C.S Lewis.
Believers receive the Holy Spirit, which guides our conscience towards God's standards, and that is what Mr. Conscience does for a living. Plus, this character is a representation of my personal conscience. I might get different convictions than you, probably because I struggle with different things than you.
Original Commentary (From February 24th, 2020):
"The word conscience, as a lovely friend of mine commented on my previous post, is the combination of “con” and “science”, which means “with knowledge”. To act consciously means to act with knowledge, of what we are doing and whether we should or not, Even non-Christians have a God-given conscience, we know instinctively that hurting others is wrong. Christians receive a divine conscience when they are saved, the Holy Spirit “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 16:24
The Holy Spirit teaches us, guides us, and reminds us of the word of God. This means that it will warn us when we go against it, and encourage us to obey it. That is who Mr.Conscience personifies.
As the verse I quoted in this comic says, it is sin when we don’t do something we know we ought to do. The Holy Spirit tells us what we should do, and we KNOW by the word of God that we should do it, but yet we fail so many times. This is why we all fall short of the glory of God and we need Jesus!
In the comics to come, I’ll be using Mr.Conscience to remind all of us of things we may not be doing that we should do, and things we do that we shouldn’t. "
