This realization that I haven’t been diligent enough in studying who God is, what He wants, and why he wants it has been a long time coming. It started when I had to take down a few comics that I posted because I realized that I knew nothing about the topics that I spoke on. I just repeated popular evangelical Christian talking points. Ignoring all nuance and didn’t even bother to ponder these values myself. And then I saw more and more of this happen, and at the end of 2021, it clicked. I was overconfident in my knowledge.
The “making your faith your own” process is painful and filled with doubt. Overcome it, and you have achieved something great. Or maybe you decide to leave Christianity or deconstruct. But some don’t deal with it, they just live on as a Christian for convenience’s sake.
That’s irresponsible. Christians have a responsibility to represent Christ well to the world. Sadly, a great number of Christians are like those described in Hebrews 5:12. Some of us ought to be teachers by now, but we are still drinking spiritual “milk” instead of “meat”. We still dwell on the surface level when it comes to understanding scripture, and scripture is DEEP, it’s a lifetime pursuit to understand it all. What does that say to the world? Well, it says that we don’t actually care about our values, instead, we are just interested in ticking each other’s ears with stuff we like to hear. We claim to be an “evangelistic” faith, but you certainly can’t evangelize if you don’t even fully understand why you believe what you believe.
Comics for Christ is my journey as I seek to understand Biblical (and other forms of) wisdom for myself and then share it with you guys. I want us all to grow together in our love and understanding of God. To do that, I must study extra hard, and I will be doing that this year. I will also humble my content, and only post ideas that I have fully thought through and understood.
