COMIC: Friendship

Note: This is an older comic.

Original commentary (from March 21, 2021):

"Recently I have been experiencing a loss of fellowship due to covid and some other circumstances. The toll it did on me really showed me how important good fellowship is and how thankful I am for the friends I have.

Bad company changes people, even the ones with the best characters. In high school, I decided to homeschool for my grade 12 year. Everybody thought it was such a dumb idea, missing out on all the fun, the friends, the grad experience. Looking back, it’s clear that I left because the Holy Spirit showed me even though I had really good Christian friends, there was too much bad company in that school. It was not a godly influence and sadly it dragged me away from God. Missing that grad year was worth it, I spent my time with God and my Church family and it really drew me closer to Him. Honestly, if I didn’t give up the company I had then, there might not be a comics for Christ page today.

In the Church, we have too many weak fellowships. Let’s take youth groups as an example. So many friendships consist of only worldly talks, jokes, games, and maybe the occasional deep conversation. But what I want to see are people lifting each other up in prayer, encouraging one another to be more Christ-like, and having conversations about the Lord. Where is the overflowing love that we are supposed to have for one another? Where is the iron sharpening iron? May I suggest that this is part of why so many young people are leaving the church? They are not getting the godly fellowship they need in a church setting, and they’re having more fun in the secular setting. Boom, no point in staying in the church, off they go. That breaks my heart.

Instead of waiting for someone great to come along, maybe we should be working on being that sword sharpener to our peers. Be intentional in your conversations to glorify God and exhort others. Let your friendships have meaning, bring your friends closer to God. Someone could be desperate for a friend like that but are not brave enough to reach out. You can be that friend. A soul on fire can affect so many more. Just imagine what a difference that’ll make in the body of Christ if everyone were a sword sharpener to one another!"
